Leith Cafe Quest

One of my favourite things to do in life is to chill out on a Saturday afternoon in a pretty, cosy cafe. Edinburgh is great for this, but my neighbourhood of Leith is particularly special.

The diversity of people, pubs, cafes and restaurants is what made me fall in love with Leith. From the recently opened Starbucks (I’m not ashamed to like chains too) to the vast range of little independent coffee shops featured in this blog post.

Whenever I’m driving or walking down Leith Walk there always seems to be somewhere new that catches my eye. Recently, there seems to have been an influx of cafes so I decided to share my faves and hopefully you can tell me about some I’ve missed!

Review: Jamie’s Italian Edinburgh

Well Jamie Oliver, you certainly surprised me there!

I’m going to be totally honest with you… I had pretty low expectations about Jamie’s restaurant. However, I was soon eating my words after our visit to the Edinburgh branch of the chain.

Review: Jamie's Italian, Edinburgh

Located in the centre of the city between Rose Street and George Street in the former supper halls of the Assembly Rooms, it’s in a prime spot for tourists and locals alike. You can actually access the restaurant from both streets but we opted for the more low key entrance on Rose Street. (more…)

Review: Marriott hotel Edinburgh

This year has been a bit lacking in holidays for my partner and I as we are saving for our wedding next year, so when I was invited to stay at the Marriott hotel in Edinburgh I jumped at the chance to escape on a mini staycation!

We chose a weekend in September which worked out perfectly as that seemed to be when the Scottish summer made an appearance. We live in Leith so we drove across to the other side of Edinburgh, towards the way to the airport, for our night away at The Marriott.

Afternoon tea in Edinburgh

It seems that 2015 is the year of the Afternoon tea, everywhere is offering this quaint feast. There are voucher deals right left and centre, some of which are definitely better than others. I’ve been enjoying a few different afternoon teas over the past couple of months so I thought I’d share my favourites with you all.

Discovering Edinburgh: Newhaven and Leith

Spring has finally made an appearance in Edinburgh! *puts on maxi dress and flip flops*.

On Easter Monday work started on our new kitchen. This is a pretty big deal as we’re getting a whole new kitchen – everything! There will be a blog post about it when it’s finished as I’m very excited about this. As I’m sure you’ll know, I love food and cooking so my kitchen is my pride and joy. This day was also one of the sunniest and warmest days of 2015 so we decided to take a walk and escape the mess of the flat as they started to rip out our old kitchen.

From our home in Leith and headed off down to Newhaven, past Victoria Park.

Discovering Edinburgh: Chilly Cramond Walks

The walk from Silverknowes to Cramond island is beautiful. It is easy to drive to from the centre of Edinburgh or you can even get the number 16 bus out there – this would leave you free to have a boozy picnic.

Tip: Definitely wear a hat and scarf – even in the summer months it can get pretty breezy.

Our reason for going for a walk here a few weeks ago was for me to practise using my new camera.
