Our survey said… Celebrity host will turn heads at Ladies Day

Lucky racegoers are getting the chance to saddle up with Family Fortunes heart-throb Vernon Kay as it’s announced he is to be this year’s VIP host at one of Musselburgh Racecourse’s most prestigious events.

The popular TV personality will join attendees at Stobo Castle Ladies Day, widely recognised as one of Scotland’s biggest fashion extravaganzas.

Vernon, who is best known as the presenter of prime time TV show All Star Family Fortunes, will host the after racing party in the Stage Marquee at the five star attraction just a few miles from Edinburgh city centre.

The race meeting, which also features Musselburgh’s richest horse race of the season, the £100,000 William Hill Scottish Sprint Cup, attracted a sell out record of 10,300 people last year.

Sarah Montgomery, Senior Operations and Commercial Manager at Musselburgh Racecourse, said: “As guests go, Vernon is a real thoroughbred. Not only is he one of the best-known faces on British TV, but he has the perfect fashion credentials to fully appreciate the riot of style and colour that is Stobo Castle Ladies Day.

“He always has a smile on his face, which we’re sure will make him a hugely popular choice with the women who turn out in such large numbers to make the day such a huge success. (more…)

Best cheese in Edinburgh

It is a well known fact in life that cheese improves any meal (sorry to all the lactose intolerant people out there). As a result, the recent influx in cheese related eateries in Edinburgh has made me a very happy cheesy bunny indeed. So here is a rundown of the best places to indulge in cheese in Edinburgh… (yes I am aware of the vast cheese repetition in those 2 sentences. Cheese!)

This month I love…

Over the weekend I have been thinking about all the things that have been making me happy recently, so I thought I’d share some of them with you all.

This program sounds ridiculous and it took me years before I finally decided to watch it and see what the fuss is all about. And now I am hooked! I could explain it to you but it will sounds insanely dull, just watch it for yourselves. Keep an eye out for my favourites, June and Leon!

Wedding planning

Yes it can be a tad stressful but ultimately I think it is completely awesome that I am planning the most important day of my life when I will be marrying my best friend and in my opinion, one of the most spectacular people on this planet. This time next year I will be a Mrs!

Winter bedding

A while ago I saw my fellow Edinburgh blogger The Likely Lady Instagram some adorable ski themed bedding, so I asked her where she found it and off I went to Primark to get my own, et voilà! Not only does it look adorable but it is so soft and cosy – perfect for dark winter nights.

Review: Marriott hotel Edinburgh

This year has been a bit lacking in holidays for my partner and I as we are saving for our wedding next year, so when I was invited to stay at the Marriott hotel in Edinburgh I jumped at the chance to escape on a mini staycation!

We chose a weekend in September which worked out perfectly as that seemed to be when the Scottish summer made an appearance. We live in Leith so we drove across to the other side of Edinburgh, towards the way to the airport, for our night away at The Marriott.

Foodies Festival Edinburgh 2015

A couple Saturdays ago I went to the Foodies Festival in Edinburgh. I’ve been for the past few years but though that over the past couple of summers it had gone down hill a bit. Seemed quite a bit smaller and fewer suppliers and stalls there. It also didn’t help that when we went last year it was pouring down with rain so I ended up eating a soggy hog roast roll whilst cowering under my umbrella.

This year the festival was SO much better – plus the sun was shining its socks off!! I had the best day with my other half as we walked around sampling ciders and cheeses, drinking prosecco cocktails and eating everything we could get our hands on. The lovely people at Pimms supplied a few deckchairs so we sat in them for a while and soaked up the sun too.

Earlier in the month I also hosted a competition on my blog to give away 2 free Foodies tickets courtesy of Wines from Rioja. A lovely lady called Fiona won and I hope she enjoyed the festival too.
